Tight-form laminate.

Tight-form is the most common kitchen bench profile nowadays. It is no better or worse than any other but seems to be in style with the great unwashed public ( (not referring to you, of course madam)

Here are the variety of postformed edges for your new laminated benchtop.

Please note: 90 degree and 180 degree postformed edges are now considered as ‘old hat’ and are seldom used, while a square edge is like living in the past and seldom to never used.

How much does it cost to replace my kitchen benchtop with a Timber benchtop?

Once again, this depends on the size of the benchtop, but it is usually between $3,500 and $7,000 inc. tax depending on timber species and whatever surface required on the timber.

Wood benchtops

Wood benchtops

The most common species of timber benchtop is ‘New Guinea Rosewood’ as it exhibits little yellowing over time and is relatively inexpensive compared to other timber species of timber.

Timber yellowing must always be a consideration, and we can advise which timbers will mellow beautifully and which not.

Benchtop oil

Benchtop oil

Wood tops can be coated with;

  1.  Two-Pack polyurethane, or

  2.  Lacquer, or

  3.  Country oil.

We recommend country oil as the surface to your benchtop as your surface will deteriorate either way over time. It is easy to apply with a rag. We fit the kitchen benchtop with one coat of country oil and show you how to apply the remaining coats. With this product your benchtop will be as new, forevermore.

Instructions: Dip rag into oil and rub onto the surface in the afternoon and the following morning, it will be dry enough to use. (not exactly rocket science)

Timber species

Australian Timber species plus more.

How much does it cost to replace my kitchen benchtop with a stone benchtop?

Once again, this depends on the size of the benchtop, but it is usually between $4,500 and $6,500 inc. tax using builder’s stone. the price can increase considerably depending on the stone range selection.

20 mm stone

By far, the most common stone kitchen benchtops are 20 mm thick, using builder’s range stone.

The quality of the ranges of stone are the same. The only difference is the pattern, and of course, the price.

Your edge treatment can differ from 20 mm to 40 mm, but whichever way, is always 20 mm with a build-up edge. You can do wonders with stone but not when having any budget in mind.

At the end of the day, stone is a great product, but it’s not granite. It will, however, outlast many lifetimes and if you are intending to last more than one, then you should take this into consideration.

How much does it cost to replace my kitchen benchtops with a Granite benchtop?

Granite kitchen benchtop

Granite kitchen benchtop

Granite is the Rolles Royce of kitchen benchtops. They will still be serviceable for your great-great grandchildren and their great-great grandchildren, mind you, some of the very light colors can be porus so you should stay away from these granites.

Customer have told me that they take items strait of the stove and place them directly onto the benchtops and have never had a problem. I, of course do not recommend this as it contains all the hallmarks of stupidity.

This, however, shows just how indestructible this product is. The main handicap is of course the cost.

Granite selection

Granite selection

Granite is cut into huge blocks from all over the world and then sliced into slabs in countries such as China and Spain. When choosing granite, you will be required to go to the merchant and choose your granite slabs which will be formed into your granite kitchen benchtop.
